Tour Details

The Palccoyo Mountain of Colors tour is another of the most popular attractions in Cusco, designed for those travelers who are not interested in climbing the mountain or are not in a position to do so. The walk takes around 45 minutes.

This full-day tour is the easiest option to enjoy the landscapes that the Andean highlands offer, including the Stone Forest, which is located on the way to the top of the mountain.

Because the Palccoyo Rainbow Mountain is at an elevation of 4,900 meters, we recommend staying in Cusco for a few days or acclimatizing to prevent altitude sickness and fully appreciate this impressive setting.

We recommend booking this tour in the months of April to November (dry season in Cusco) to enjoy the beautiful view offered by this mountain and avoid any mishap or bad weather.

But if you are a hiking lover and you love meeting challenges, take a look at our Vinicunca Rainbow Mountain Cusco Tour.

Itinerary

Full DayRainbow Mountain Palccoyo

We will pick you up from your hotel early in the morning and drive you through the Cusco South Valley to Checacupe in our private transportation.

Checacupe is a tiny colonial village with a colonial church and an Inca civilization-style rope bridge similar to Q’eswachaka.

We’ll come to a halt here so you can get some refreshments if you want. We will begin our walk to the summit of the Palccoyo mountain going through the Stone Forest. During the tour, you will be able to witness and engage with remote villages that retain their traditions and customs intact.

Upon reaching the summit after a walk of no more than an hour, you will be able to see more closely the mighty peak of Ausangate that dominates the southern horizon of Cusco on a clear day.

We’ll start the descent to the parking area after visiting the mountain and marveling at the breathtaking scenery.

Our driver will be waiting for us here to take us to Checacupe, where we will enjoy a great local lunch before returning to Cusco.
