Tour Details

The humantay lagoon, located at an elevation of 4,200 meters, is known for its crystal blue waters that conceal old civilization legends and traditions, and is surrounded by magnificent snow-capped mountains.

This lagoon gets its name from the snowy Humantay as it feeds of the water on the snow that melts on the hill and descends towards the pure waters of the lagoon.

The Andean peoples that live near the lagoon regard it as sacred, as they do in the Inca empire, since they revere natural entities. Even today, shamans (Andean priests) make offerings to Apacheta in the lagoon. It is a method of thanking Mother Earth (Pachamama) for following them on their trip by stacking stones one on top of the other.

The walk to the Humantay Peru lagoon is 1 hour and a half from Soraypampa. If you don’t want to walk or don’t feel up to it, you can rent a horse for a private cost.

To avoid altitude sickness, we recommend spending a few days in Cusco or acclimating or reserve our Cusco city Tour or Sacred Valley Tour.
